What Does It Mean When You Dream About a Heart?
Artie Wu — Fifteen years guiding inner work, 100,000+ people
The Short Answer
When your heart appears in a dream, it represents your core, sensitive, vulnerable self — the part that knows what you truly want and need. This is your inner compass trying to get your attention.

What Heart Actually Means in Your Dream
After fifteen years of doing this work, I can tell you that heart dreams are some of the most important ones you'll have. Your heart in a dream isn't just an organ — it's the deepest, most authentic part of who you are trying to communicate with you.

Think of your heart as your inner truth-teller. It's the part of you that knows, beneath all the noise and shoulds and social conditioning, what you actually want and need. When your heart shows up in a dream, it's like having a direct conversation with your most honest self.
I've seen this thousands of times with my advisees. Someone will dream about their heart, and when we explore it, we discover it's been trying to tell them something crucial — maybe that they're in the wrong relationship, or pursuing a career that doesn't fit, or neglecting something that brings them joy.
Your dreaming mind chooses the heart symbol very intentionally. It's not subtle. It's your psyche saying, "We need to talk about what really matters to you, not what you think should matter."
The heart in dreams often carries information that your conscious mind has been avoiding or dismissing. It's vulnerable because it holds your deepest truths, and those truths can sometimes be inconvenient or scary to face.
Context Changes Everything
When your heart appears strong and vibrant in the dream, it usually means you're connected to your authentic desires and honoring what you need. This is your psyche celebrating that alignment between who you are and how you're living.
If your heart is wounded, breaking, or being attacked in the dream, that's often what I call a "Little Body Message" — your inner system telling you that you're neglecting or betraying your core self somehow. Maybe you're saying yes when you mean no, or pursuing something that looks good on paper but feels wrong in your bones.

When you're listening to your heart or having a conversation with it in the dream, pay close attention. This is direct access to your inner wisdom. Your dreaming mind is giving you a chance to hear what your authentic self has been trying to tell you.
If your heart is missing or you can't find it in the dream, that's usually about feeling disconnected from what you truly want. It's not gone — it's just been buried under expectations, fears, or other people's agendas for your life.
What to Do With This Dream
Heart dreams usually show up when you're at some kind of crossroads, or when there's a gap between how you're living and what you actually need. Your inner system is trying to course-correct, and it's using the most direct symbol it can find — your heart.
